Messi scores stunning Copa America Freekick

Argentina's Copa America campaign began with a drab 1-1 draw against Chile, but Lionel Messi's stunning free-kick and tributes to Diego Maradona stole the show.

Argentina was held to a 1-1 draw by Chile in their opening Copa America match. Lionel Messi scored a fantastic free-kick.

Prior to the contest, a magnificent tribute to Argentine superstar Diego Maradona was paid.

Messi put Barcelona ahead soon after the half-hour mark with a spectacular effort that saw him curl the ball over Claudio Bravo and into the top corner.

Argentina got the better of the game, but they were punished for not extending their lead when VAR ruled Arturo Vidal had been brought down unfairly inside the penalty area.

Inter Milan's midfielder missed his spot attempt, but Eduardo Vargas, a former QPR loanee, was quick to respond, heading home to earn Chile a point in Group A.

Messi was furious at the end of the game and exchanged many words with the officials.
