Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that forward Memphis Depay will be joining the club this summer.
There have been reports that the Dutchman had signed a deal with the team and what was remaining were finer details and according to his former national team boss, the deal was almost complete.
“It’s not signed yet, but it’s almost there. I wanted to sign him in January, but if it happens now, that’s great. We know what we can do together. The move had also been on hold given the doubts over Koeman’s continuity at Barcelona, a matter that’s resolved, for the time being at least," Koeman said as reported by Football Italia.
Koeman wanted to bring Depay in January this year but the financial situation at the club meant that they wait longer for the player who will be arriving as a free agent.
In that period, Juventus had emerged as a potential rival in the deal with it is reported that Depay only wanted to move to Barcelona to work again with Koeman.
Memphis who has scored 26 goals in 65 appearances for the Dutch national team started his career with PSV Eindhoven before moving to Manchester United. After an unsuccessful outing at Old Trafford, he moved to French side Lyon where he scored 76 goals and assisted another 55 in 178 games with the club.
