Istanbul will host the Champions League Final in May 2023

The Champions League final will be held in Istanbul's Ataturk Stadium in 2023, according to UEFA.

The Turkish venue was supposed to host European club football's showpiece match in 2020 and 2021, but UEFA was forced to change the dates due to the coronavirus pandemic in both years.

Last year, Lisbon hosted a final-eight "mini-tournament," and an all-English match between Chelsea and Manchester City was moved to Porto at the last minute.

As a result of the latest change, the final will now take place in 2025 rather than 2023 at Munich's Allianz Arena.

The 2024 final will be held at Wembley, while the match next year will be held in St Petersburg, Russia.

"Following the relocation of the 2021 UEFA Champions League final from Istanbul to Porto, it was decided to award the staging of the 2023 UEFA Champions League final to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul," UEFA said in a statement.

The Europa League final will also be held in Dublin in 2024 and Bilbao in 2025, according to the European governing body.

Bilbao will also host the Women's Champions League final in 2024. Prior to the pandemic, both cities were scheduled to host Euro 2020 matches.

"Following the withdrawal of hosting rights for UEFA Euro 2020 from two of the original hosts cities, the UEFA executive committee today approved a settlement agreement which includes the staging of future club competition finals, recognising the efforts and financial investment put (in) by the two cities in preparing for the tournament," UEFA said.
