Watch: Jesse Lingard scores for Man United amid speculation about his future

Jesse Lingard put his future plans aside to score for Manchester United in a friendly against QPR.

Lingard played the second half of the 2020-21 season with West Ham United, where his good form sparked a lot of interest in him.

With United having spent big on Jadon Sancho, many fans believe Lingard would be better off looking for a new club.

However, the England international has remained at Old Trafford and has had a strong pre-season.

Lingard scored against QPR on Saturday afternoon after his powerful strike rocked the crossbar during last Sunday's triumph against Derby.

A pass was put into the foot of Facundo Pellistri, who with one precise touch passed the ball to Lingard.

With only the QPR goalie to beat, the 28-year-old slipped his shot past him to put United ahead.

Speaking about Lingard’s future, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told reporters: “Jesse has come back, he’s been bright and he wants to fight for his place.

“There’s nothing better than seeing players willing to fight for their place. Of course, what he did towards the end of the season, that is the true Jesse.

“That’s what we know he is capable of. I think we saw towards the end [of last season] that we lacked maybe some options at times.

“He’s still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”
