Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund will be going head to head to sign Sassuolo attacker Domenico Berardi this summer.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the two sides are the favorites to land the player after AC Milan, who have been long-term admirers, pulled out of the race to sign the player.
The Italy international was impressive at the European Championships, registering two assists while creating several more scoring opportunities. It is believed that his club will demand a fee in the region of €40 million for any team interested in his services.
Chelsea wants another attacker in their ranks with speculation rife that Hakim Ziyech might leave the club this window if coach Thomas Tuchel doesn't guarantee him more playing time at the club.
Dortmund on the other end is on the cusp of landing Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven, who will reinforce their attack after the exit of Jadon Sancho but getting Berardi will boost their attacking options as they gear to wrestle Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
While Malen is a striker by trade, Berardi has spent the vast majority of his career on the right-wing, and he would be a like-for-like replacement for Sancho.
The 26-year-old had a top campaign for Sassuolo the last term, registering 17 goals and eight assists from 30 appearances in the Serie A.
