Former Blackpool captain Tim Sherwood says he expects Chelsea striker Timo Werner to 'struggle' once again this season.
Werner is yet to rediscover his form since moving to Chelsea from Leipzig last season and has received criticism. The Blues have also brought back Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan who has started recent matches ahead of the Germany international.
Sherwood believes the 25-year-old will continue to struggle for the remainder of the season.
"Everyone thought that Timo Werner and Kai Havertz would be nailed on starters for Chelsea because of the German connection," he said.
"But I think Werner is going to struggle. I think he needs to show the manager that he’s got more than the press, he needs to show some quality. He’s done that in other countries, we saw him as a top scorer in Germany. But we see so many players come over and struggle."
Sherwood has also warned Saul Niguez, who joined on deadline day from Atletico Madrid cannot afford a slow start to his career in west London.
"Saul is a superstar in Spain with Atletico, he comes to the Premier League and it was all too quick for him."
"Hopefully, he settles and I’m sure he’ll improve, but I don’t think these players will get forever to improve."
"They need to start showing their worth otherwise they’ll be left out and eventually they’ll be moved on."
Chelsea who are second on the log with 10 points will travel to face Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League.
