⚔️ The battle of the best: Will it be the experienced Lewa, or ever-improving Haaland for Bundesliga top scorer award?

The battle for Bundesliga's top scorer promises to be as exciting as that of the league crown.

Robert Lewandowski is always the favourite, but Borussia Dortmund's goal-machine Erling Haaland will definitely give him a run for his money if the early games are anything to go by.

The two are currently on seven goals each from their respective clubs' opening five games, in which they have all started.

Will it be the ever-improving Haaland or the experienced Lewa?

Haaland's development.

The Norwegian is one of the most sought-after strikers in world football. Chelsea were keen on snapping him up last summer but the German club held their ground, insisting he was not for sale.

He was third in the scoring charts last season and seems eager to go one better this campaign.

The Norwegian's growth has been steady over the years and the numbers don't lie.

  • ⚽ 16 goals in 11 games this season
  • ⚽ 25 goals in his last 19 games
  • ⚽ 12 goals in 15 games with Norway
  • ⚽ 68 goals in 67 games with Dortmund
  • ⚽ 21 goals in 17 UCL games
  • ⚽ 130 goals in 179 games in his career

Lewandowski's records

There's no doubt the Polish is arguably the best striker currently and has been over the last few years.

He scores for fun and rarely has an off-day even when Bayern Munich struggle.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward claimed his first European Golden Shoe after outscoring everyone in 2020/21, and it seems highly unlikely to be his last.

He capped his 11th season in the Bundesliga with a record 41 goals, going one better than the late Gerd Müller some 49 years earlier.

He also became the first to be named Bundesliga top scorer for four years running. and will be all out to make it five!

Bundesliga top scorers;

  • Robert Lewandowski -7
  • Erling Haaland - 7
  • Anthony Modeste - 4
  • Patrik Schick - 4
  • Taiwo Awoniyi - 3
  • Wout Weghorst - 3
  • Florian Wirtz - 3
  • Moussa Diaby - 3
  • Serge Gnabry - 3

Can Haaland stop the Bayern's dangerman? Only time will tell, but this promises to be one of the closest Golden Shoe races in Germany's top-flight in recent years.
