Aston Villa new manager Steven Gerrard wants to raid former side Liverpool for the services of defender Joe Gomez.
Two games into his Villa tenure, The Sunday Mirror reports that Gerrard has made the signing of a central defender as his top priority in January and is already in the market for some exciting talents in the position.
Gomez has not had the needed game time this season following a season-ending injury he suffered in the last campaign with the Reds signing Ibrahima Konate who has since replaced him at the heart of Liverpool defence.

Gomez who formed a formidable partnership with Virgil van Dijk is now seen as the fourth-choice center-back by boss Jurgen Klopp, with the Dutchman, Konate, and Joel Matip all ahead of him. That has seen him restricted to two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far this term, totaling just 13 minutes.
With the World Cup coming in the summer, Gomez wants to play regular football to boost his chances of making it to the Gareth Southgate squad and a loan deal to Villa might be a chance he might fancy.
