Man United 3-2 Arsenal: Ronaldo's penalty seals victory for Red Devils

Manchester United registered a big win at Old Trafford following a 3-2 victory over visiting Arsenal.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals to move his career to 801 and United moved within three points of the top four. Arsenal stays fifth, missing the chance to move above West Ham.

The Gunners took the lead in the 16th minute and it was one controversial goal. The ball dropped to Smith Rowe on the edge of the penalty and with De Gea down injured, the England midfielder struck the ball into the back of the net.

Referee Martin Atkinson appeared to put his whistle to his mouth but did not blow and with De Gea's injury caused by Fred, the goal was given.

United grabbed the leveler through Bruno Fernandes after White's poor clearance and the hosts capitalized. Sancho slipped the ball into the path of Fred, who cut the ball back for Fernandes to sweep past Ramsdale.

At the start of the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo gave United the lead and it was his 800th goal for the club and country.

Mikel Arteta's men had a perfect response and Martin Odegaard drew the Gunners level. Martinelli worked the ball on the right before cutting it back for Odegaard who picked put the bottom corner.

Penalty

Odegaard lunged in and clipped Fred inside the penalty area but referee Martin Atkinson initially waved away the United appeals. Atkinson changed his mind and went for a quick VAR check and the penalty was awarded. Ronaldo stepped up and restored United's lead.
