AFCON 2021 began with so much embarrassment before great beauty. The latest example was Ghabadinho Mhango's world-class goal against Morocco on Tuesday night.
A proud Malawi were sent home in the last 16 after losing 2-1 to Morocco at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde. Additionally, Mhango produced the best moment of his career in the seventh minute.
After restoring a loose ball in the center of the pitch, Mhango picked up possession on the left flank before speedily cutting infield… the Orlando Pirates forward struck a flying bullet from about 40 meters. It flew past Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou into the top right-hand corner of the net. Even FIFA's 2021 best goalkeeper in the world, Edouard Mendy, was not going to save that.

Sadly for Mhango and the Flames, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar Achraf Hakimi had a sublime free-kick to smash home in the final 20 minutes of the game.
Meanwhile, Morocco will be facing a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the quarter-final on Sunday.
