Benjamin Mendy charged with another count of attempted rape

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been slapped with another count of attempted rape.

This was revealed on Wednesday at the Chester Crown Court where judge Justice Thompson revealed there is a new charge of attempted rape involving a new complainant.

This brings to a total of nine the number of counts of rape relating to six different women in a case the defender was initially charged on August 26, 2021.

The 27-year-old was granted bail on January 7 and was present at the court on Wednesday for the latest update in his criminal case.

The earlier charges are alleged to have happened between October 2020 and August 2021.

Mendy was suspended by the Premier League defending champions following the initial charges in August.

He joined Pep Guardiola's side from Monaco in 2017, making a total of 75 appearances during a time he also struggled with recurrent injuries.
