Mohamed Elneny was surely expected to take a penalty in the AFCON 2021 final didn’t he? The Arsenal star has given his reasons for not taking one.
Taking a penalty is the biggest pressure moment for any footballer, nevermind the AFCON 2021 final.
As players who are used to the intense hot pressure levels in England, it was easy to expect Egypt and Arsenal’s Elneny to step up.
The 29-year-old said his skill to convert from 12 yards is ‘not bad,’ but what if he missed?
"My penalty kicks execution is not bad but I can't think of what could happen if I miss," Elneny told Mehwar TV.
"Missing would mean I could make 110 million Egyptians sad. I just can't take it,” the Arsenal midfielder concluded.
Meanwhile, the midfielder is now looking ahead to Arsenal's next Premier League game away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
