Telkom Knockout Semi-Finals

  • Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates
  • 24 November 2018
  • Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.

Previous meeting

Orlando Pirates 2-1 Kaizer Chiefs, Absa Premiership
FNB Stadium, Johannesburg
Goal scorers: Innocent Maela, Vincent Pule (Pirates) and Khama Billiat (Chiefs).

Form Guide

Visitors Pirates could extend its invincible unbeaten run to 12 games. The Buccaneers’ last taste of defeat goes back to 19 August against Bloemfontein Celtic. Pirates’ unbeaten run has a goal return of 18 goals and nine goals conceded including three clean sheets.

Though Chiefs’ are unbeaten in three games, coach Giovanni Solinas has faced notable pressure since losing to Pirates in October. Amakhosi have managed two 1-0 wins and a goalless draw, with fans calling for brighter performances and high-scoring wins that meet the club’s expectations.

However, even a drabby 1-0 win over Pirates would do wonders for Solinas’ ratings on the Amakhosi faithful, while a consecutive loss to Pirates could result in real unrest.

Coaches comments

Chiefs coach Solinas: “Chiefs against Pirates is ‘The Game’. It is a very important game. And we arrive in this game much better than last time. Because last time we had players injured‚ we had players not training for five or six days.”

“For example Khama [Billiat] – we had a problem with Khama‚ who had not trained for six days. He trained only on the day before the derby. In the last derby, we did not have Lebogang Manyama.”

“But generally the condition in the last derby was not good. Now it’s much better because all the players are available. The fitness of the players is OK. This for me is very big positive.”

“You know we are Kaizer Chiefs. Kaizer Chiefs need to play to win.”

Pirates’ Sredojevic: “We have to be respectful of the opponent and the funny nature of the game. We will stretch ourselves to the human and sports limits. We want to bring smiles to the Happy People.”
“We started yesterday (Wednesday) to fully prepare as we had a lot of players with the national teams. We are aware of what this match brings. We must pay attention to details and approach the game with the highest degree of respect.”

The match will get underway at 15:00 in South Africa.
