Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has revealed that Chelsea’s new signing Christian Pulisic was loaned back because the club had an agreement with the player to sell him in the July transfer window.
Dortmund announced earlier this month that they had agreed on a £58M deal with Chelsea over the signing of Pulisic but the American was immediately loaned back to the German outfit. Pulisic has been widely been tipped to replace Willian on the right flank with the Brazilian struggling to nail down a regular starting position.
In an interview with ESPN, Zorc revealed why Pulisic was loaned back to Dortmund, “We took a collective decision with Christian's family and his agent that we would transfer him in the summer of 2019 if he didn't want to extend his contract with us.
“It wasn't a case of talks with Chelsea starting at Christmas and being concluded on New Year's Eve. This had been going on for weeks if not to say months.”
