Manchester City will be boosted by the return of Benjamin Mendy after a lengthy spell on the sidelines ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday 22nd January.
Mendy suffered a meniscus problem which was different from the cruciate knee ligament injury which saw him miss the majority of last season. The defender had surgery on his left knee in Barcelona after pulling out of the France squad last year. Kevin De Bruyne also suffered an injury in the win over Fulham last year and will be on the squad but Guardiola ruled out Vincent Kompany.
Guardiola confirmed that Mendy will travel with the Manchester City squad for the Burton clash, “[Mendy is] in the squad for tomorrow. He will travel with us. Maybe on the bench. I would say with the results we have done last two years, we have not missed him too much but I would say we have missed him a lot. Kompany is not okay. A little injury - he is not fit. He is coming back but I don’t know when.”
