Zinedine Zidane says he wishes the season was over after watching Real Madrid suffer another embarrassing defeat against bottom club Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

The defeat was Real's fourth in the last six matches and practically ended the teams' chances of finishing second behind league winners Barcelona

"We will play these last three games and then this is finally over," the Frenchman said after the match.

"I'll always defend my players, but not today," Zidane added. "We can't play like that, and I'm responsible as well. We didn't do anything. We have to apologize."

With nothing at stake but pride, Zidane said Madrid needs to play for that.

"We can't finish like this, with this image, we have to show some respect for the game and for the club. We will have to play better."
