Player Profile: Man United & Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot

PSG's talented central midfielder is a transfer target for many clubs and Europe and it's not hard to see why.

Here's all you need to know about the left-footed ball-player.

Player bio 📊

  • Age: 24
  • Club: Paris Saint-Germain
  • Position: Deep-lying midfielder
  • Estimated transfer value: €35m

What's Rabiot's story so far? 🇫🇷

At 24, Rabiot should be ready to take the next level in his career which has stalled somewhat at PSG. There were personal differences with management that saw him become a bit-part player, playing second fiddle to Marco Verratti, new signing Leandro Paredes & Julian Draxler. Even veteran right-back Dani Alves was utilized there ahead of him in league outings.

Rabiot infamously turned down an offer to be on France's standup list for the World Cup in 2018, and he's been stuck on six caps ever since. Quite what the future holds is unclear, but Rabiot will move on a free to a club that will have to manage his temperament in order to enjoy his talent.

Playing style & strengths 🥊

Adrien Rabiot is an elegant, technically-gifted central midfielder whose close control and first touch afford him time and space to control the tempo of football matches. His preferred position is as a deep-lying playmaker but is also adept at being the most defensive midfielder in a combination.

Rabiot's strongest trait is undoubtedly his passing. His range might need work but passing over short distances is his speciality and he knits the play together effortlessly. His height allows him to impose himself on opponents and win aerial duels, while his intelligence off the ball has seen him get ahead of the play and score crucial goals from midfield, two that spring to mind are at Chelsea in 2016 and Barcelona in 2017.

Weaknesses ☄️

At times, Rabiot neglects his defensive responsibilities in the centre of midfield when tasked with being the tackling component of the midfield unit. If he is allowed to express himself on the ball, then he flourishes. There are almost no technical weaknesses in Rabiot's game on the ball.
