After clinching the league on Wednesday, Gor Mahia were coronated following a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers who secured another season in the league with the result in a match staged at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday 25th May.
Gor Mahia were looking to better their points tally after racking up 75 points last season while Posta Rangers were seeking to free themselves from the shackles of relegation. Rangers handed Gor Mahia a guard of honor as the league champions marched on into the pitch before kick off.
Hassan Oktay's charges started the game on the ascendency as they almost grabbed the lead in the fifth minute from a Samuel Onyango corner that was headed on goal by Nicholas Kipkirui but Gradus Ochieng' palmed the ball out for safety.
Gor Mahia had a penalty shout waved away in the 13th minute when Francis Mustapha teed up Kipkirui with a neat through ball as the former Zoo FC player dribbled past the Gradus who had committed himself and tripped the forward in the process.
K'Ogalo finally broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Samuel Onyango delivered a free-kick that Posta Rangers failed to deal with as Bernard Ondiek finally got the ball in the back of the net after the goalmouth melee on the second attempt after his first header hit the crossbar.
Posta restored parity right at the depth of the first half when Simon Mbugua found Peter Nganga with a pin-point cross as he headed from close range to ease the half time team talk that was to be delivered by John Kamau.
The second half was a cagey affair as Posta Rangers sat back to defend for the better part of the game and squandered chances presented to them on the break with Brian Osumba being the culprit. With the draw, Rangers have secured top-flight football for another season by virtue of a better goal difference compared to that of Zoo FC.
Gor Mahia's season comes to an end when they take on Mathare United on Wednesday 29th May while Posta Rangers face a tricky away tie against Tusker.
