Manchester United legends thrash Bayern Munich in charity match
Manchester United legends thrashed their counterparts from Bayern Munich 5-0 in a friendly clashed staged at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The game was used to launch United’s brand new home shirt that they will use in the coming 2019/20 season.
Current United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put his side into the lead before Dwight Yorke handed the home side a 2-0 lead heading into the break; other goals were scored by Nicky Butt, Louis Saha, and David Beckham.
The two sides went head to head in order to raise funds for charity, and the United sidestepped out at Old Trafford wearing next season's home shirt which pays special tribute to the most successful campaign in the club's history.
The United home shirt for the coming season nods back to those trophy-laden days and bears a similar resemblance to the kit worn in 1999.
On the sleeves, fans will notice a series of unique emblems to the iconic season 20 years ago. A statement on United's website read: 'The new shirt acknowledges the minutes in which those historic goals were scored with 90+1 and 90+3 printed on the sleeves.
'The dates of the FA Cup final win over Newcastle United and decisive Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur are also displayed, along the bottom of the shirt.'
Another new addition to the United shirt is a commemorative crest, which takes inspiration from the shield seen on the chests of the Treble-winning stars 20 years ago.
