Manchester United offered Maguire boost as City abandons chase
Manchester United have received a boost in their chase for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire after competitors Manchester City dropped their interest.
City were thought to be in for the England international, but manager Pep Guardiola has now indicated there won't be more defensive arrivals in the current window.
Speaking ahead of the Asia Trophy clash with Wolves, the City boss said: "We are so happy with the squad we have. I don't know if the players here will stay or if new players will come, but I am delighted with the players we have.
"There's a chance [of a defender coming in] but I don't know if it will be possible. We [already] have three incredible central defenders and Fernandinho can play in that position."
United remain in pole position to acquire the services of the defender, having made a £70 million bid which was rejected by Leicester at the start of July.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding more steel to his backline, after a disappointing season in the 2018/19 campaign where they finished a dismal sixth in the English Premier League.
United will open their campaign in a tough match against rivals Chelsea on August 11th.
