Manchester United have been warned by Sporting president Frederico Varandas they will have to pay more than £56m to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to reinforce his midfield ahead of the new season in order to fill the void left by Ander Herrera. The club has been linked with a move for the Sporting midfielder as well as Newcastle United youngster Sean Longstaff.
“I don’t know if there are many or if there are few [interested clubs]. What I know, a lot has been spoken of values, coming to the press, €55m, €62m… for that he doesn’t leave, for sure,” Varandas told RTP.
“If Bruno Fernandes leaves, players with quality will come. But if Bruno leaves,” he added.
The-24-year-old is contracted until 2023 and Sporting are under no pressure to sell.
