Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski says his club is ready to do whatever it takes to retain the Bundesliga title.
The Bundesliga giants will be keen to secure their eighth straight title this season and it could be tough for them especially in light of how rivals Borussia Dortmund have bolstered their squad. However, Lewandowski feels that the team has maintained a high work ethic this pre-season and that the squad will be ready to go in two weeks’ time.
“The season is going to be very long, but we still have a few more weeks to go. There’s also the Supercup and the DFB Cup before the start of the Bundesliga season, and we’ve already been working really hard. But the important thing is that we are at full tilt when the league starts,” he said.
“If you’re the defending champions, the following season can be even more difficult. Everyone is expecting another team to finally be champions. But we are Bayern Munich, we are the reigning champions and we want to stay on top. This also means that we train even harder for it — work even harder — and go that extra mile in games. You have to show again and again that you are number one.”
Munich will start their title defense against Hertha Berlin on August 16th, 2019.
