Former Orlando Pirates star Teko Modise has predicted Kaizer Chiefs to lose the Carling Black Label Cup Soweto derby.
The two giants clash on Saturday afternoon for the Absa Premiership flagship pre-season curtain-raiser. Modise was on hand to predict Saturday’s outcome and believes Chiefs will not make it two in a row after a 1-0 win in 2017.
With Pirates fans selecting a balanced backline with two full-backs and two central defenders, Chiefs’ starting line-up is unbalanced with no left-back in the team.
“Orlando Pirates, especially at the back, is the better selection with the structured back four that they normally use,” Modise told Soccer Laduma.
“With all their attacking players on the pitch that have been doing well, especially for the last season. I think they stand a better chance in terms of their attack, especially because you can’t make a sub until half time. So, I think Orlando Pirates stand a better chance because of how structured they are at the back.”
The newly appointed Cape Town City Executive PR went into further detail to break-down Chiefs’ voted eleven and how the back-four will struggle to influence attacks.
“As for Kaizer Chiefs, they’ve selected three natural center-backs in a back four that are all right-footed. One of those three central defenders would have to play at left-back, which wouldn’t be his natural position, hence they’re going to have a problem attacking on the left, which is their stronger side since Khama Billiat is playing on the left. They’re going to have to readjust and play lopsided.”
Modise concluded by stating there Pirates will be armed with their typically fast offense to claim a 2-1 win inside 45 minutes.
“And knowing how Orlando Pirates attack, it’s quick and very aggressive in that regard. I think Orlando Pirates have a better chance and might even win the game in the first half, so I see the game going 2-1 to Orlando Pirates based on the structure they have versus what Kaizer Chiefs have selected at the moment,” said Modise.
