Carlo Cudicini handed new role at Chelsea after Lampard snub

Carlo Cudicini has been given a new role at Chelsea and will work with the development squad for the coming season.

The former goalie has been an assistant coach at the club for three seasons now, serving under Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri, but was left out of the coaching team by new manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard came in with a new backroom team, which comprises of Jody Morris, Chris Jones, Joe Edwards, Eddie Newton, and Hilario.

Cudicini has taken up his role with the squad and was present as the team tore apart Newport County 6-1 on Wednesday night.

The development squad already have former Blues’ players Andy Myers and Jon Harley acting as head coach and assistant at that level respectively.

It's not clear yet what his role will, but the official website still lists him as assistant/ambassador.

Meanwhile, Lampard has continued with the team's preparations for the new season, having returned to England from their Asia tour.

The club kicks off their new Premier League season on August 11 with a match against rivals Manchester United.
