Reports: ZIFA to announce Antipas as new Zimbabwe manager

Reports emerging out of Zimbabwe suggest that ZIFA have gone for Chicken Inn coach Joe Antipas.

The news rumours of Sunday Chidzamba’s successor was reported on the Chronicle today, it includes an anonymous source’s confirmation as well as comments from Antipas himself.

The Warriors are still without a new head coach after Chidzambwa handed in his resignation last month, and just weeks after taking Zimbabwe to two consecutive AFCON tournaments.

“The guys met on Saturday in Bulawayo and considered a number of names, local and foreign, but in the end, they settled for Antipas. Some wanted a foreign coach but financial issues came into focus,” the source told The Chronicle.

Committee chairperson and Zifa board member Bryton Malandule also commented in support of an agreed decision but would not reveal a name.

“Look it’s only proper that we follow due process before rushing to the media. I will be forwarding the recommended name to the board which will then make an announcement next week after having also formally consulted the person. It’s a local name though so be patient and allow us to complete all the formalities,” he said.

Additionally, Antipas was also reached to confirm or deny the reports - and says he is unaware of the news but is nevertheless flattered.

“That is news to me my brother, but it’s always great when people see you as a possible national team coach,” said Antipas.
