Real Madrid new boy Rodrygo suffers hamstring injury

Real Madrid's injury list continues to bulge, with new signing Rodrygo Goes joining the list after tearing his hamstring.

The injury is bad news to coach Zinedine Zidane, who will be forced to start the new La Liga season without some of his key players.

Rodrygo joined the Bernabeu club during the summer and put in promising shows during the preseason, including scoring a wonderful freekick against Bayern.

"Following the tests carried out by the Real Madrid medical department on our player Rodrygo Goes, he has been diagnosed with an injury on his right rectus femoris [hamstring]," Madrid's statement read.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."

Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic, Thibaut Courtois, and Brahim Diaz might also miss the start of the season after picking various injuries during the preseason, while Marco Asensio is expected to be out for months after a damaging knee ligament during a match against Arsenal.

Madrid will kick-off their new Liga season on Saturday when they travel to take on Celta Vigo.
