Paul Pogba’s missed penalty for Manchester United at Wolves on Monday night placed him as the English Premier League’s sixth-worst penalty take in a list of footballers who’ve taken over 10 kicks.
With Monday’s tough away game at Wolves tied at 1-1 on 68 minutes, Pogba won United a penalty before stepping up to see his blasted penalty parried away to safety by Wolves keeper Rui Patricio - a moment that has very sadly been followed by racial abuse towards the Frenchman.
Pogba’s miss at Wolves has earned him the sixth-worst finisher from 12 yards in Premier League history, a list that features players who have attempted more than ten spot-kicks.
The numbers reveal that Pogba now missed four of 11 kicks, but has a better record than the likes of Juan Pablo Angel, Riyad Mahrez, Steed Malbranque, Dwight Yorke, and Kevin Phillips.
Villa’s Angel is, unfortunately, the number one worst penalty converter with five misses out of 10 throughout his stint in the league between 2001-2007.
Worst Premier League penalty-takers by success rate 😳
- 🇨🇴 Juan Pablo Angel - 50%
- 🇩🇿 Riyad Mahrez - 58%
- 🇫🇷 Steed Malbranque - 60%
- 🇹🇹 Dwight Yorke - 60%
- 🏴 Kevin Phillips - 61%
- 🇫🇷 Paul Pogba - 64%
This certainly not the type of list a player wants to be at the top of and Pogba might not be on penalty duty next time United get a spot-kick.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Manchester City's Ivorian legend Yaya Toure is the best ever penalty taker in the Premier League.
Toure hit the net 11 times out of 11 to tip the edge the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Danny Murphy, James Beattie, and Julian Dicks, who each scored 10 from 11 penalties.
