Zimbabwe’s caretaker coach Joey Antipas has named his Warriors squad to face Somalia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier.
Antipas’ 18-man list includes four new call ups in the shapes of Macclive Phiri, Tichaona Chipunza, Phenias Bamusi, and Clive Augusto.
AFCON 2019’s dramatic bribery allegations around Baroka FC’s goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has not influenced the new manager, with Chipeze appearing in the goalkeeping department alongside Talbert Shumba.
As per usual, the squad has a strong South African PSL flavour that includes seven players out of 18.
- Goalkeepers: Elvis Chipezeze (Baroka), Talbert Shumba (Chapungu).
- Defenders: Teenage Hadebe (Yeni Malatyaspor), Macclive Phiri (Highlanders), Peter Muduwa (Highlanders), Alec Mudimu (CEFN Druids AFC), Divine Lunga (Lamontville Golden Arrows).
- Midfielders: Marshall Munetsi (Stade de Reims), Thabani Kamusoko (Zesco United), Kudakwashe Mahachi (SuperSport United) , Tichaona Chipunza (Chicken Inn), Phenias Bamusi (Caps United), Khama Billiat (Kaizer Chiefs).
- Strikers: Tinotenda Kadewere (Le Havre AC), Clive Augusto (Maritzburg United), Terrence Dzvukamanja (Bidvest Wits), Admiral Muskwe (Leicester City), Evans Rusike (Supersport United).
The preliminary round qualifier will see the Warriors first making the trip to the neutral venue of Djibouti on 5 September, before later hosting the second leg in Zimbabwe.
