Harambee Stars players abroad: How they fared over the weekend

After the international break, Harambee Stars players abroad continued with their club duties after representing the national team against Uganda Cranes with the others resorting to remain at their clubs.

Striker Michael Olunga who captained the Stars team in the Uganda tie amassed 90 minutes as his Kashiwa Reysol side was held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Ventforet Kofu. The Kenyan international who has scored 14 goals for his side this season didn’t get any goal but was booked on the 84th minute Kanazono cancelled Esaka’s early strike.

There was no action for winger Ayub Timbe with Beijing Renhe with their club placed bottom of the Chinese Super League log after 23 games. He will, however, hope for some game time when they take on Chongging Dang in their next league tie.

Kenyan duo of Jesse Were and Anthony Akumu started their CAF Champions League against Yanga SC over the weekend and helped their side to a 1-1 draw in a clash staged in Tanzania. Another Kenyan in the team David Owino made the bench.

In England, Stars captain Victor Wanyama was an unused substitute as Tottenham Hotspurs ran 4-0 winners over Crystal Palace on Saturday. 

In Sweden, after missing the Uganda Cranes game, defender Joseph Okumu will hope he can make his debut for IF Elsborg when they take AFC Eskilstuna this after signing for the top-flight side early this month. 

Still, in Sweden in the Superettan (Swedish Second Division), midfielder Eric Johanna will hope he can get more game time when IF Bromma travels to face Vasteras on Monday 16 September.

Defender Eric Ouma also recorded full minutes as IF Vasalund emerged 4-3 winners over Karslund on Saturday 14 September in the Swedish Division One (third tier). Another Kenyan in Ochieng Ovella was introduced in the 72nd minute with Anthony Wambani also clocking the full minutes.

In Spain, midfielder Athuman Gonzalez is still waiting for his debut for UD Las Palmas II after four games after missing in their weekend 4-0 loss at the hands of Atletico Madrid II.
