Wilfred Ndidi’s absence from the Ukraine friendly hasn’t gone past without any reasons. The Leicester City man has told Nigerians why he didn’t honour the invite.
Following Nigeria’s both exciting and frustrating 2-2 with Ukraine a fortnight ago, many have been left thinking it might have been better if Ndidi was on the grass.
The player’s recent explanation may now be what many of his biggest fans will appreciate. The 22-year-old player has cited an injury rehabilitation as the cause for his no-show. Ndidi also explains why he played for Leicester in the same condition.
”The reasons I did not go for the Ukraine friendly I was recovering, though I played the last game for my club which I was not supposed to the club is still trying to monitor my strength,” Ndidi said via Brila.
The Lagos-born player, who started his football at Nath Boys before 2005’s move to Belgium, added that he did make contact with coach Gernot Rohr and the Nigeria Football Federation.
”I spoke to the Super Eagles coach and the president of the NFF about the situation before the game, and that’s the reason and a replacement has been invited,” concluded Ndidi. Up next for Ndidi’s Leicester Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
