Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has received a glowing tribute from former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.
The Serbian, considered among the best defenders to ever play in the Premier League, says the Dutch international has been phenomenal over the past two seasons for both club and country.
The former Southampton man has been a revelation for the Reds, helping transform a once leaky defense to one of the tightest in Europe.
He led the side to the Champions League title last season and came close to lifting the Premier League, narrowly missing out to Manchester City.
He has won the European defender of the Season, Europe Player of the Season, PFL Player of the season among other personal accolades, and is among favorites to win the Ballon d'Or.
Speaking to Talksport, Vidic revealed his admiration for the Dutchman.
“He is definitely one of the best defenders in the world,” the Serb told talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams at the PGA Pro-Am at Wentworth,"
“He has shown that week-in week-out, he had a top season last year.
“Obviously this season as well, they [Liverpool] are competing for all the trophies, so what he has to do is maintain his form, keep his feet on the ground and deliver again.
“I admire what he does, he’s a top player.”
Liverpool have started the season from where the finished the 2018/19, and are atop the Premier League table after five matches.
