After making his switch from Ajax to Barcelona in the summer transfer window, Frenkie de Jong has revealed that he rejected offers from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Dutch midfielder had signed a pre-contract with Barcelona before eventually joining them in June on a €75m move from Ajax. De Jong has nailed down a regular starting berth under Ernesto Valverde and scored in the 5-2 win over Valencia.
In an interview with El Periodico, De Jong revealed that the champions of France and England were after him, "If it had not been Barcelona, it’s hard for me to say now, but it probably would have been PSG or Manchester City. It’s not good to talk about being motivated by money. Money is not my area – it was never a topic of discussion at meetings that I was at.
"That’s the business of my agent. Barcelona was always my because they were the club who showed me the most love. The first time I heard about Barça? It was in 2018. My agent called me to say: ‘Barcelona has been interested in you, let’s talk to them.’ Listening to something like that makes you proud and flattered."
