Harambee Stars Abroad: Goal for Ouma as Joseph Okumu debut

It was another good week for Kenyan players aboard with the highlight being a debut for Joseph Okumu in his new club and a goal for his former schoolmate Eric Ouma.

Okumu who joined IF Elsborg in August had not featured for his new club due to a delay in his work permit but he finally did that on against AIK on Saturday and helped his team to a 1-1 draw against the Swedish giants.

His only blemish in the game was a 70th-minute yellow card with the point seeing Elsborg move to eighth with 33 points; Okumu hoping that he can amass another 90 minutes when they take on Falkenberg in their next tie.

Still, in Sweden, Stars midfielder Eric Omondi was introduced in the 67th minute as IF Bromma went down 3-2 at the hands of Orgryte on Saturday.

The loss is detrimental for Bromma in their bid to avoid relegation as they sit in position 14 with 23 points, this being just one point above bottom-placed Syrianska.

Goal for Eric Ouma

Remaining in Sweden, it was a mixed day for defender Eric Ouma as he scored his first goal but the goal did less in preventing IF Vasalunds from going down 3-4 to Carlstand United.

Vasalund opened the scoring proceedings through Bulut with Ouma doubling their lead in the 50th minute. The table was to turn though as a brace from Alexis in the 67th and 86th minute for the hosts. Nikolic restored Vasalund’s lead in the 89th minute but goals from Gran and Yonakhir in stoppage time ensured Ouma and co left the Tingvalla IP Stadium empty-handed.

In Slovakia, defender Yusuf Mainge once again amassed full minutes as his FK Pohronie fell by a solitary goal to hosts Senica.

In England, Stars captain Victor Wanyama was introduced in the dying minutes for Harry Winks as ten-man Tottenham Hotspurs held on to record a 2-1 win over Southampton.

Olunga on a Brace

In Japan, striker Michael Olunga continued with his scoring form as he netted a brace in Kashiwa Reysol’s 3-0 win over Tokyo Verdy; a win that sees the team cement their top spot in the J2 league with 69 points; nine points above second-placed Omiya Ardija.

In Zambia, Anthony Akumu and Jesse Were featured for Zesco United as they booked their place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

Were even put his name on the scoresheet with a goal in the 24th minute with Akumu amassing the full minutes. There was no action for defender David Owino though.

There has been no action for midfielder Athuman Gonzalez as he is still clubless after leaving Las Palmas II in July. The same applies to Chris Mbamba who left Swedish side Oddevold in July and left-back Aboud Omar.
