Pogba out as Man United name squad for Alkmaar test

Manchester United has not included midfielder Paul Pogba in their squad that is travelling to the Netherlands to take on AZ Alkmaar on Thursday.

Pogba is said to have aggravated his foot injury in their Monday draw with Arsenal with Solsjkaer deciding to rest the French midfielder for the Europa League tie.

Pogba had earlier played 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup win over Rochdale but his injury now means he joins defenders Luke Shaw and Wan Bissaka and attacker Anthony Martial who are both out of the squad.

Another notable absentee in the travelling team is captain Ashely Young though his absenteeism hasn’t been explained.

United will be in action at the Kyocera Stadium in The Hague, which is 70 miles away from Alkmaar. The roof at AZ Alkmaar's usual ground, the AFAS Stadium, collapsed last month, with the Eredivisie side having to play their home games elsewhere.

United opened their Europa League campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Astana.
