πŸ”΅ Why Gabuza kept his son's death a secret

SuperSport United’s MTN8 Cup triumph has been followed by some gloomy news from Thamsanqa Gabuza.

The popular former Orlando Pirates striker, having won the Man of the Match gong in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Highlands Park, has revealed he hid a big secret ahead of the game.

Gabuza came out during his team’s dressing room celebrations in Orlando to say that he had lost his son during the week. The Newcastle-born player’s confession was confirmed by his coach Kaitano Tembo.

The Zimbabwean coach said Gabuza was motivated to protect the team’s spirit and focus. Including the player’s astounding decision not to attend the funeral.

“I heard after the game just now, concerning Gabuza, and it's something which he did but I didn’t even expect or encourage him to do that,” Tembo told Kick Off.

“I think he did what he did for the badge, and this is what happened: He lost his son on Monday and he never told anyone, and the funeral was on Thursday but he never attended because he only told us in the dressing room now."

“He didn’t want to upset the camp because we were facing a very crucial game, and for me it just killed everything.”

Tembo went on to salute the 32-year-old’s commitment to the team. The Zimbabwean coach took the moment to say that win was achieved in Gabuza’s honour.

“I see someone who’s really committed, someone who a lot of players can learn from. He’s had to go through that and still play the way he played – a man of the match performance – and I dedicate this win and this cup to him.”

Tembo concluded the revelation by adding that players action was both sorrowful and valuable.

“That’s the only sad part and it’s already starting to hit me that someone can do that and still play for the team, doing it for me – I appreciate that but at the same time I’m also hurting,” Tembo concluded.
