Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has revealed that he never wanted to see Cristiano Ronaldo leave Real Madrid.
The Portugues winger ditched the Spanish giants in favour of Italian champions Juventus in the summer of 2018, bringing an end to a decade of stay at the Spanish capital.
The attacker enjoyed the Messi rivalry during his stay in Spain and helped light up the famous El Classico clashes.
Messi has now opened up on the rivalry, saying it was one of the reasons he would have wished Ronaldo stayed at the club.
“I wanted him to continue with Real Madrid,” Messi told RAC1. “He gave a plus to the rivalry in the Clasico and La Liga.
The Argentine also feels his loss hit their rivals hard, despite having good players and always challenging for top honours.
“Real Madrid will continue to challenge because they have very good players, but I already said that the team was going to feel his loss for what he meant and that the squad would notice. But they have plenty of players to allow them to fight for every title and they have a lot of history.”
The Catalan star is slowly getting back to his level best following a niggling injury, which kept him out of the club's opening matches of the current campaign.
He scored a trademark freekick last week against Sevilla and will be rearing to go after the international break.
