Mozambique ran 1-0 winners over hosts Harambee Stars in a friendly clash staged at the MISC Kasarani on Sunday 13 October.
The rainy soaked pitch wasn't doing the teams any favors but Stars were willing to risk it all for the home fans going by the earlier proceedings.
Both Michael Olunga and Kenneth Muguna were suspects of missed chances in Stars earlier dominance; the keeper resorting to time-wasting each time he was granted the opportunity to cool a shot.
Olunga was to remind the Mozambique team once again on the quarter-hour mark why he was one of the most lethal strikers in the region with a stinging shot that was to be parried by Julio Pedro in the opposition goal.
It was Olunga again in the 18th minute being through on goal after a cleared ball from his defence but the soaky pitch saw him trip when he was about to pull a trigger with the Pedro having raced off from his line to save the danger.
Lawrence Juma and Olunga were to come close again but Mozambique was growing better as the game proceeded. Ernesto Marcelino was to send a curler as a reminder that they were not here for holiday before shooting straight at Shikhalo minutes later but the change couldn't alter the outcome of the first half.
Mozambique was to continue from where they left in the first half with some crisp play with Kimanzi throwing in Duke Abuya for Clifton Miheso. Abuya's first contribution was to see his header from a Samuel Olwande cross gathered by the opposition keeper ae Stars looked for the elusive goal.
Jesse Were was to come on for Muguna as Kimanzi looked to boost his strikeforce. Despite the changes, Mozambique was to be given a scare when keeper Shikhalo failed to gather a cross from Gabriel Edmilson; the hovering Fait Artur failing to direct his diving header into an empty net.
The shaky Farouk was at it again three minutes later when after racing off his line, he failed to clear a loose ball allowing Artur to intercept-defender Eric Ouma forced to adjust to clear the intended danger.
If those warnings were not enough, Mozambique was to take the lead through Anhembe Amancio in the 68th minute; the player having been in the field for less than five minutes for Edmilson. The striker took matters into his own hands, wiping a series of Stars defender before slotting past Shikhalo.
Kimanzi was to introduce Whyvonne Isuza for Cliff Nyakeya after the setback as Stars looked to restore parity. Jesse Were was to miss an open chance after some confusion in the Mozambique defense, this coming after Olunga missed to divert a corner in an empty net.
Eric Ouma was to come again for Stars seven minutes from time but his free-kick once again missed everyone. A late surge by Were and Isuza all went begging and despite an additional four minutes, Kenya couldn't find the goal to restore matters.
