Mozambique head coach Luís Gonçalves has hailed his charges second-half performance in their 1-0 win over Kenya on Sunday 13 October at the MISC Kasarani.
Mozambique started shakily in the game but grew as the game progressed and Goncalves while admitting that they were up against a good opponent, he feels that the changes they made settled his team and hence the result.
“I feel satisfied because we won the match. It was a very difficult match because Kenya is a very good and strong team. They started the match strongly but we stayed together and concentrated through the game.
“It was important to keep them at bay when they had the momentum and scored when it mattered. If we could play the first half with the ball more on the ground we could have done better,” the coach said after the game.
The tactician further believes that the game was important for his side’s preparations and one that gave him a clue on the areas he needed to improve on.
“It was an important match for us to grow as a team. We have to improve on many things just as any other coach, you are never satisfied and all I can do is to make sure the team improves every day.
“I decided to refresh the team on the attacking position and Neymar scored a very good goal. But anyone could have scored on the day. I think we had good opportunities even before the goal and the substitutes just gave us a different edge,” he added.
Next for Mozambique is an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda in November.
