KPL Preview: Gor seek to extend league dominance over Sharks while Leopards face tricky Stima customers

After a two-week hiatus due to the International Break, Kenyan Premier League Round Six will take center stage this weekend despite various clubs suffering financial crises.

Sharks vs Gor

This fixture has been one-way traffic for Gor Mahia since Kariobangi Sharks earned promotion to the KPL back in 2017. Sharks have only managed one win against Gor in the league which came last season but William Muluya's charges who are known to be cup specialists have beaten K'Ogalo twice, in the Super Cup and FKF Cup.

Gor have a tough run of fixtures in the next three games and could do themselves a huge favor with a win over Sharks as they next face Motema Pembe twice and Western Stima who they failed to beat last season. They will hope that their strikers can find their scoring boots once again with Nicholas Kipkirui and Francis Afryie scoring a goal each while midfielders have contributed seven goals this term.

Leopards vs Stima

AFC Leopards have rolled back the years and have looked closer to the team that dominated the league back in the '80s and '90s. They currently sit second on the log, two points behind arch-rivals Gor Mahia albeit having played a game more. Their success can be pinned on a strong defense that has kept a clean sheet in every game of the season bar one.

Stima have adapted well to their second season in the league and are one of only three sides left yet to taste defeat this season. They will be brimming with confidence heading to this fixture having dominated it with Leopards winning only twice in the last 10 matches, a run that dates back to 2014.

Wazito vs Homeboyz

Both sides head into this fixture in contrasting form with Wazito having found their footing after a lethargic start while Homeboyz have crumbled following an impressive start. The Kakamega based side have lost two consecutive games and sit 10th on the log with seven points from five games.

Wazito have never beaten Homeboyz in their short history in the KPL but stand a better chance of rewriting history owing to their form and a star-studded squad. The Homeboyz defense will have to be wary of Elvis Rupia and Victor Ndinya who have so far scored two goals each with the latter scoring in back to back games.

Ulinzi vs KCB

Ulinzi Stars have been a side that has struggled with consistency in recent seasons with their form book this season emphasizing the point (DWLDW). Being one of the four sides to have won a league in this decade much is expected from the side but they have failed to seriously challenge for the title for some time now.

KCB are flying high under Harambee Stars' assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno and sit third on the log two points behind Gor Mahia. Their free-scoring form and solidity at the back has been their success this season. Ulinzi have also managed to keep things tight at the back letting in only three goals which is the second-lowest this season alongside Gor Mahia, Western Stima and KCB.
