Montella praises his players for playing a clinical game against Brescia

Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella praised his charges for managing to control their game against Brescia after playing to a goalless draw at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti, Viola Channel reported.

“We need to keep working but that’s always the case,” said Montella, speaking in his post-match press conference.

“We certainly need to improve our finishing if we want to stay near the top of the table, which I gather is looking better now, even if I’ve not seen it. We need to keep working but I was impressed by the team’s mentality tonight, including at the end there. We showed we could wait for the right moment to force the game.

“I think we had more than Brescia, including from a physical perspective: when you have more of the ball your force your opponents to run more. I don’t know whether that was the case but it was the mentality that I was most pleased with: the players stayed in the game right until the end.”

“We were very solid but we lacked some vibrancy, partly due to the fact that Brescia prevent you from playing your game,” he said.

“They’re well organised and get numbers around the ball. Every team has found it tough here because they prevent you from playing good football. We found it tough going at the start, up until the disallowed goal – it wasn’t a penalty on [Martin] Caceres either. The referee did very well so credit to him.”

“I think we could have been a bit better in terms of our decision-making when we got to the byline, because we’d identified that as a possible weakness,” he said.

“We tried to force by bringing on [Riccardo] Sottil, who had a very big impact. If we’d been a bit more clinical, perhaps we would have been able to take better advantage of those situations and maybe win the game. We had the better of it in the last ten to 15 minutes and we could have made that pay.”
