Unai Emery aims a dig at Arsene Wenger and defends his record at Arsenal

After a comparison showed Arsene Wenger performed better in his last 47 games than Unai Emery's first 47, the Arsenal manager has defended his record at the club.

Arsenal suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United, a result that piled pressure on Emery with fans growing increasingly frustrated with his tactics and team selection. Wenger had 26 wins in his last 47 games compared to Unai's 25 while the Frenchman had more goals scored, fewer goals conceded and more clean sheets.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of their Europa League clash against Vitória Guimarães, Emery took a swipe at Wenger, "Sometimes we forget the memory and we need to remember. When I arrived here, this team needed to improve being more competitive.

"This team in the history was winning 1-0 and being very competitive, but it wasn’t enough. Then one process being competitive and with improved creativity. When I arrived here, the creativity is more or less good, but being competitive was worse. It was not enough.

"I think last year I started to improve being competitive, also more or less creativity with some very good matches playing with that creativity."
