KPL Review: Tusker FC go top as Kariobangi Sharks sorry run continues

The Kenyan Premier League continued over the weekend with a total of seven games taking place across different pitches in the country.

Without Gor Mahia and Bandari FC who were involved in the CAF Confederations Cup, Tusker FC laid claim of the league by perching to the top after a hard-fought 3-2 win over visiting Nzoia Sugar FC on Saturday at the Kenyatta Stadium.

It was a Timothy Otieno show as he bagged a brace in a tie that saw Mike Madoya score on his birthday as Roberto Matano seeks to wrestle the title they won in 2016 from Mahia.

Mathare United and Posta Rangers had their match end in a scoreless draw in what was the fifth stalemate for both sides; the highest in the league this season. Both teams are on 11 points but Mathare has played a game less having not lost a clash this season.

Sharks Poor Start

It was another bad outing for William Muluya’s Kariobangi Sharks with their loss against Zoo Kericho being their third of the season. Sharks who have only won one game since the season started have drawn the other four games and will hope that they can have a change of fortunes when they take on struggling Kisumu All-Stars in their next game.

Of the struggling teams, Sony Sugar FC once again reminded everyone what they are capable of doing if everything is in place. Having traveled at night and arrived at the match venue on the same day, they were to narrowly lose to Wazito FC who are still trying to understand the demands of their new coach Melis Medo.

Top Scorer Lwassa

At the Bukhungu Grounds, Sofapaka's Peter Lwassa relieved some pressure off coach Alvez as they held hosts Kakamega Homeboyz to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. His goals saw him perch on top of the goalscorers list together with AFC Leopards Mark Makwatta who failed to grab the onion bag in their scoreless draw with Ulinzi Stars.
