Former Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger feels Eden Hazard's poor form at Real Madrid is due to fitness issues and the result of his weight.
Hazard joined Real Madrid in the summer from Chelsea for a reported fee of £89 million after a superb season with the Blues. However, since signing for the Los Blancos, Hazard is yet to impress in Madrid shirt and has only netted a single goal in 10 appearances in the La Liga and Champions League combined. The Belgian suffered a hamstring injury and Wenger believes the fitness issues are hampering his form at Real Madrid.
"He is not the type of guy to be [over-awed at Madrid] but I don't know him well enough to assess that. I think it was more down to physical reasons. He became too heavy and what you read in the papers. If you want to make a horse lose a race, you put two kilos on a horse of 500kgs and it's enough," said Wenger.
"I feel we have not seen the Hazard we know in England yet. He was not physically fit after he was injured. He is not a player who is usually impressed by anything. But he looks to me that he doesn't have the same confidence he had at Chelsea."
The 28-year-old played 68 minutes on Wednesday night as Madrid beat Galatasaray 6-0 in a Champions League match.
