Former Tottenham Hotspur Jamie star Jamie Redknapp believes Mourinho's appointment is good news to the club, and that they can now compete for the titles.
Mourinho has been out of management since leaving Manchester United in 2018 but has now made a dramatic return to the London side, replacing Argentine Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino led Spurs to the Champions League finals last season but has struggled this campaign both in the league and in cup ties.
Redknapp, however, believes 'the winning' mentality the Portugues brings to the club is valuable, and can give them titles.
"Champions League aside, Spurs have been in decline for some time,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail. “They have been falling short in the league since the end of last season and are 14th, way below what is expected,"
“Poch failed to win a trophy in his five years - and that will work against any coach when it comes to being given time,"
“Jose Mourinho is a left-field appointment for Levy but if you want a winner - and Spurs have not won a trophy for a long time – Mourinho is your man.”
Mourinho will be tasked with guiding the side from the bottom half of the Premier League table, with the trip to West Ham this weekend his first match.
