Ernst Middendorp is pleased to have Kearyn Baccus back for Kaizer Chiefs but might be forced to drop Khama Billiat.
Chiefs are back in action this weekend in a Telkom Knockout semi-final games against Maritzburg United. Looking ahead to the game, coach Middendorp confirmed that Baccus will possibly return from injury to feature.
"There is a good direction particularly in terms of Kearyn Baccus being back and fully available for selection. We have also the challenges of looking into how Lazarous Kambole and Khama Billiat come back [from international break],” Middendrop said via Kick Off.
The German coach highlighted that Billiat might not be 100% to play after two AFCON 2021 games for Zimbabwe where he scored two goals in two games.
"I know Lazarous didn't play [for Zambia] and Khama played two games in the space of five days [for Zimbabwe], including travelling, so it's then to find the right solutions and combinations, looking ahead to the game on Sunday,” Middendorp added.
Middendorp concluded by explaining why having Baccus back is such a big plus for the log-leaders. The coach mentioned the Australian-South African central midfielder’s qualities.
"Ja, it's definitely something as we know his last game was a few weeks ago. He trained now fully in the international break, and particularly the entire week now.”
"Very mobile and flexible and he's definitely a player who gives us an additional dimension with this really responsible ball possession rate - it's good; it's good. I'm very happy to have him back,” concluded the former Maritzburg coach.
