Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has realized he was the best player in South Africa last month.
Today’s was the Absa Premiership’s monthly award day and it emerged that a goalkeeper by the name of Akpeyi was the last four week’s best footballer in the land.
"It is (award) a big surprise to me but it also shows the importance of putting effort forward in whatever you do,” Akpeyi said at the press conference.
Ever the superbly gracious professitional, the 33-year-old goalie also took the moment to recognize the club’s injured number one Itumeleng Khune.
“I give credit to the technical team who have been patient with me. I'm settling in, I'm taking each game as it comes. Khune is a good keeper, I'm just grateful for the opportunity from the coach. It's a healthy competition in that department (keeper).
“I'm just happy to be improving all the time," he added.
Meanwhile, Akpeyi's Chiefs look on course to win the 2019/20 title. With 10 points clear at the top, Amakhosi will be next in action against midtable drifters Bloemfontein Celtic on 7 December.
