Johanna Omollo FIFPRO Parade ends with Injury as Samatta’s Genk beat Brugge

Harambee Stars midfielder Johanna Omollo could cap his FIFPRO Award parade with a win as his Cerce Brugge fell 1-2 to Genk in a Belgian top-flight match staged at the Jan Breydelstadion Stadium on Saturday 7 December.

Omolo who had started the game was to be withdrawn in the 19th minute with an injury with Mali’s Lassana Coulibaly called on to replace him.

Japanese Junya Ito had given visitors Genk a 34th-minute lead but the hosts restored parity in the 66th minute through Thibo Somers. Genk had other ideas as Norwegian Sander Berge was to notch what proved to be the winner twenty minutes from time.

Before the game, Omolo was presented with the $25,000 FIFPRO Merit Award for 2019 he won for his outstanding community work in Dandora-Kenya.

The injury is a blow for the midfielder who had just started hitting form after a long layoff. It is a blow too for Brugge who are placed at the bottom of the log with eight points after 18 games.
