There’s a new German in Soweto, his name is Josef Zinnbauer and Orlando Pirates is his new team.
As reported here on Futaa today, Pirates made the shock announcement to reveal Zinnbauer as the new head coach. The 49-year-old coach formally replaces Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic while the Rhulani Mokwena will return to his assistant coach capacity.
So who is the new man?
Origin & playing career
The 49-year-old was a midfield player until a cartilage injury forced his retirement in 2005. Zinnbauer played for 12 German clubs - including Mainz 05 where he was teammates with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in the 1995/96 season.
Zinnbauer began his coaching in 1996 with SK Lauf - making him a coach with roughly 23 years experience. His managerial career includes reserve team coaching and a stint in Switzerland. With German Bundesliga club Hamburger the club he enjoyed his highest success and level to date.
