After Chelsea fans slated him for his performance against Brighton and Hove Albion, Frank Lampard has defended N’Golo Kante terming his performance as "standout".
The Frenchman was heavily criticized by Chelsea fans for his display alongside Jorginho in Lampard’s midfield as they struggled to contain Brighton in the second half.
Speaking in a press conference after the draw against Brighton, Lampard came to Kante's rescue, "I think when it becomes a matchup, which is ‘are you better than us or are we better than you?’
"We didn’t do enough at that point. It can’t just be about Jorginho getting on the ball. If that avenue is shut down then there has to be other ways to play.
"That can’t be the answer. I think it was a collective in terms of the lowering in quality of our game today, that wasn’t just any one individual.
"I think there were actually some standout performances particularly Kante, particularly Kepa, and I think Toni Rudiger. But in general, for the team, we lost too many balls."
