πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦β˜ οΈπŸ“‰πŸ—£ Pirates 4-1 Polokwane: Zinnbauer explains weak second half

Orlando Pirates claimed a storming 4-1 win over a helpless Polokwane City last night inside 45 minutes - but the second half was glaringly flat.

Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer described the 4-0 bulldozing in the first half as “what we want to see.” However, the second half saw the Buccaneers struggling to show the same energy, creativity and speed…

“The first half was the football we want to see. But we have two halves. The first was very good and the second not so good,” the German told SuperSport TV after the game.

“But I understand a little bit. We had two games in three days and we have next week a very, very big game [Mamelodi Sundowns]. I understand a little but I also hope the players will also understand me when I make my comments about the second half tomorrow.

With Pirates showing the same drop of intensity in the second half against Bloemfontein Celtic last weekend, Zinnbauer was asked if this is a concerning pattern.

“We need a little bit of time. We prepared and improved the team in the short period. But when you’re 4-0 up, players naturally drop effort. The opponent also comes hard. They have nothing to lose and they play free. It’s not easy at that point,” concluded Zinnbuaer.

Bucs will now enter a seven day break before facing the champions Sundowns on Wednesday 15 January in Soweto.
